Following the announcement of Mrs Deborah Cooper’s retirement, George Abbot School has appointed Mrs Kate Carriett as its new Headteacher with effect from 1 September 2016
The school, in Woodruff Avenue, Burpham, had an excellent field for the Headteacher vacancy, many of whom were serving Headteachers and Mrs Carriett stood out as the outstanding candidate.
The appointment panel felt that her commitment to valuing every student allied to her passion for raising student achievement made her the ideal candidate to continue and improve upon the tradition of innovation and excellence at George Abbot School.
Mrs Carriett is currently the Principal at Kings College, Guildford where she has delivered considerable improvements in standards of teaching and care for students over the past three years.
Both schools are part of GEP Academies and already work closely together. Mrs Carriett will continue to be involved in a strategic leadership role at Kings College in order to ensure it continues its current pace of improvement. The Kings College Governing Body will now start the process of appointing a Headteacher for September 2016.
Mrs Carriett, who is married, has two sons and lives in Hampshire, said “I am honoured and excited to be appointed to the Headship of such a prestigious school and delighted to be able to continue my work at Kings College working in partnership with the new leadership”.
