GEP as a MAT

We believe that the creation of supportive cross-phase learning communities of staff, parents and pupils are crucial to our vision for outstanding local education. For our schools to be successful we are putting pupils' progress and the retention and growth of teachers and support staff at the heart of our vision for GEP. To that end, GEP's vision for school improvement is built upon the highly successful Teaching School Alliance based around George Abbot School. All of the research projects we have undertaken for the NCTL have been deliberately cross-phase and brought benefit to primary and secondary schools alike. These

have recently included modern foreign languages, pedagogy, closing the gap and assessment projects.

Secondary initial teacher training (ITT) has been led from George Abbot for 15 years and is so successful that it was selected by the National College to be a pilot for migration from GTP provision to SCITT.

Two other ITT routes have been added to our portfolio. We now have a primary ITT route that has been specifically designed, by a former primary HMI, to support primary schools in our Trust with recruitment.  Additionally we are working with the Brilliant Club, Lampton Teaching School and the DfE to deliver post-doctoral teachers to develop E-Bacc subject expertise in schools, lead on subject-specific research and improve access to Russell Group Universities.

Support staff training has been part of our portfolio of Teaching School activities since our designation in the first 100 Teaching Schools.  We have gained a strong reputation for the training of and deployment of high quality support staff to local schools.

Leadership development is crucial to our vision. As part of the Surrey Teaching Schools Network (STSN) we deliver high quality accredited leadership courses NPQH, NPQSL and NPQML. Many members of our Trust have followed the programmes and evaluated the professional development very highly. Specialist Leaders in Education (SLEs) are identified and accredited by the Teaching School and deployed to support schools across the Trust.

Our school improvement experts are regularly deployed to the benefit of Trust members on activities including Ofsted preparation, subject reviews and lesson observation training.
