Sandfield Primary School is celebrating its Ofsted judgement after a recent HMI visit. The school has been graded ‘Good’ with an ‘Outstanding’ verdict for behaviour and safety.
This verdict has come as a result of an intense 3 year programme led by Headteacher, Jonathan Kirkham and supported by governors and staff at the school in Stoke, Road, Guildford. Mr Kirkham said:
“We are so thrilled that the inspectors agreed with our own self-evaluations and we were graded as ‘Good’ in all categories, with personal development, behaviour and welfare graded as ‘Outstanding’.
The very positive comments from the inspectors reflect the huge journey the school has undertaken since our last inspection, when we had a rating of ‘Requires Improvement’. We are very grateful for the incredible hard work and achievements of the entire school staff, governors and the children, and also for the continuing positivity and support of the parents and the local community.
I’m particularly pleased that we achieved ‘Outstanding’ in personal development and behaviour and that the inspectors made special mention of our pupils impeccable behaviour and a strong regard for respecting one another and the school. They commented that our pupils are exceptionally friendly and confident, warmly welcome visitors and are keen to engage in conversation. All pupils feel valued and part of the school family. One pupil said, ‘Our school is made up of lots of different faiths and cultures but we are all one community.’”
The inspectors were particularly impressed with the pupil’s extremely positive attitudes to learning as a result of teachers and leaders focussing on the quality of teaching and learning. Teaching of reading and writing is a strength of the school. Sandfield is now visited by other schools looking to adopt similar practices in order to improve their pupil’s writing.
Mr Kirkham joined the school when it became a member of the local multi-academy trust – GEP Academies (Guildford Education Partnership). During the two day inspection it was noted that
‘Since his appointment, the headteacher has been uncompromising in his drive to move the school forward. He is passionate for the school to be the best it can be, and has taken it on a journey of rapid transformation over the past three years.’
Inspectors also commented on the collaborative and support work done with the school and GEP Academies. GEP’s CEO, Danny Moloney said “We are all delighted with the Ofsted outcome at Sandfield. My thanks to all the people at GEP and in the school who have made this possible.” For further information please see/contact:
